creating community through celebration

May Day at the Oakland Zoo

Join us on Sunday, May 1st at the Oakland Zoo to celebrate May Day, Revels style. Featuring music by the California Revels Solstice Ensemble, presentation of the May Queen, the selection of the 2015 Jack of the Green, and a little dancing, May Day at the Zoo is always a wonderful way to welcome the spring and warmer weather.

The highlight of the proceedings is the May Pole where we invite children of all ages to take part in the annual May dance and weaving of the ribbons for another year (no experience necessary). There is no charge for the event except for regular zoo admission. We will be at the Children's Zoo location within the Oakland Zoo beginning at noon and will sing and dance for around an hour. Bring the entire family for this traditional nod to spring.
